Seth Davis, Programme Advisor, Community Systems Foundation From 27-31 May 2019, senior statisticians from L'Institut national de la statistique (INSTAT), and statistical experts responsible for the national development plan participated in a week-long workshop in New Delhi, India. Shahrouh Sharif, Advisor-Data Analytics and Health Systems Strengthening, Community Systems Foundation Seth Davis, Communications Officers/Programme Advisor, Community Systems Foundation Throughout the last two decades, Ghana has implemented several national measures aimed at improving overall child survival and health equity in the country. [1] While these policies amplify the necessity of health equity, Ministry of Health focal points have had limited capacity to analyse health sector data prior to the introduction of the EQUitable Impact Sensitive Tool (EQUIST) in Ghana.
Seth Davis, Communications Officer, Community Systems Foundation To assist countries in the achievement of national priorities related to poverty eradication, under five child mortality rate and impact of malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, the EQUitable Impact Sensitive Tool provides analysis of inequitable distribution of development results along with a scenario analysis function to access the impact of the removal of bottlenecks in the delivery of interventions. This helps national health programmes to prioritize interventions and geographical areas. [1]

In A Data Revolution in Motion, the UN Statistics Division highlights the importance of data tools “to gather, present and disseminate Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) data.” [1] In order to better track progress on national priorities and the SDGs and to create meaningful interventions, however, policy-makers must use these tools efficiently, effectively and extensively. Seth Davis, Communications Officer, Community Systems Foundation By strengthening national health systems between 2016-2020, 85,000 young lives can be saved in Ghana alone, according to a recent USAID report. [1] However, with limitations in health service delivery, limited accessibility for geographical reasons and poor readiness of health-care facilities, many of the poorest individuals are unable to receive basic health care. Community Systems Foundation (CSF) has helped spark a revolution in the way national ministries in Côte D’Ivoire monitor development plans and SDG progress. With support from UNICEF, the national government has partnered with CSF to align national ministry sectoral plans with SDG targets through the Data For All (DFA) monitoring platform. Community Systems Foundation REPORT This 2018 CSF report to UNFPA-UNICEF outlines the objectives, highlights and key observations from the Regional Training on the Use of Data for Analysis & Evidence-Based Planning and Advocacy on FGM. In partnership with CSF technical partners, focal points from Djibouti, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen strengthened national capacity in the “use of data, derived from national monitoring frameworks, to formulate clear advocacy messages” towards the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation. In this regard, the workshop also enabled national, regional and global counterparts to discuss challenges and improvements “to the approach of the joint programme, particularly in terms of monitoring and reporting data.”
Menna El Shiati, Advisor - Gender and FGM, Community Systems Foundation UN officers from Djibouti, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen are aiming to do more with data to combat Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). UNFPA’s Arab States Regional Office (ASRO) and UNICEF’s Middle East and Northern Africa Regional Office (MENARO), collaborated closely with Community Systems Foundation, to conduct a Regional Training on the Use of Data for Analysis & Evidence-based Planning and Advocacy on FGM. The regional training was conducted in Cairo, Egypt, where five programme countries, covered by the Joint Programme in the region, were in attendance. These five countries have some of the highest prevalence rates[1] of FGM in the world. |
