One of the main goals of OpenEMIS is to advocate for better access to timely education data, with an end-goal of promoting more informed decision-making. If governments are better able to assess and monitor their education system, they can make more informed decisions and target areas in need in near real time.
Since the system is integrated with DevInfo, data collected can easily be disseminated via tables, graphs and maps – making it easier to monitor progress and quickly identify disparities and gaps. “We are very excited about this initiative,” says Karl Turnbull, Programme Advisor for OpenEMIS. “The application has been designed and engineered based on many years of experience and feedback from the field, using the latest technologies available. To my knowledge, this is the first time that a generic, royalty-free, enterprise-class EMIS initiative has been made available for countries to use.”
