Within this framework, the OVD agreed earlier this year to share statistics on women and children victims of violence with UNICEF. This information is now available at InfoArgentina, a Devinfo 7 database designed by UNICEF to compile and make official data on children and women in the country public.
The release of this information represents a first step towards the acknowledgment of the situation of women and children in the country. One should bear in mind that data on violence from reliable sources is scarce in the country, and that monitoring the population affected by violence remains a big challenge.
Despite the fact that 98% of women between 15-49 years old think that violence against women is not justifiable (MICS 2011-2012), non-official data shows that violence against women and children is an extended problem.
Information gathered on InfoArgentina allows users to analyze the information by district, age, sex, type of violence, socioeconomic characteristics and migrant condition of women and children who reported being victims of violence.
