Emily Patzkowsky, Programme Associate, and Christopher Tongbram, Associate Programme Manager and Data Team Lead Last November, CSF technical advisor, Christopher Tongbram provided direct training on key DFA tools to the UNFPA Pacific Sub-Regional Office (PSRO) members at their office in Fiji. UNFPA PSRO includes 14 countries and territories from the Pacific Region that are recovering economically post-pandemic with focus on activities such as tourism, fishing, and agriculture. The workshop aimed to transfer knowledge and build the capacity of the regional office focal persons for the continued management and administration of the UNFPA monitoring platform. Leading up to the training, UNFPA PSRO worked closely with the CSF technical team through weekly interactions over 10 months to co-develop their data platform. Through the creation of the data platform and data warehouse, they learned how to use different DFA tools such as the DataManager, Dashboard Builder, Visualizer and DFA mobile applications. The team was able to use and manage the applications to capture data from the fields. These skills will be applied create country profiles like the example attached to this post. As capacity building is central in CSF’s mission to provide sustainable dissemination of data for development, CSF prides itself on helping stakeholders in developing their full ability to use each tool. Each day there was a new session on a different tool based on the team’s agenda. The sessions varied from developing a centralised warehouse for an efficient and timely dissemination of results. The whole UNFPA team was enthusiastic about using the application, noting its easy low learning curve after understanding each tool's purpose. After the trainings, many discussed how they felt the DFA tools required less technical knowledge and could be easily adapted to their various programs and to member states across the region.
