Guyana Needs Assessment and OpenEMIS Monitoring Implementation and Training In late 2018, OpenEMIS staff traveled to Georgetown, Guyana to conduct a needs assessment on the national Education Management Information System. Shortly after, the Ministry of Education requested technical assistance through capacity building on the use of OpenEMIS Monitoring for the monitoring and reporting on the national Education Sector Plan.
For the first time, Guyana is now utilizing digital education sector plan monitoring. Having previously been on a paper-based system, OpenEMIS will enable the Ministry to pursue work more efficiently and reduce the data reporting cycle, ensuring plans are progressing as projected.

Conducting a thorough needs assessment is a crucial first step in the successful implementation of the OpenEMIS initiative in Guyana (Carnahan et al., 2020). This systematic approach will help identify specific gaps in educational resources and infrastructure, allowing for targeted interventions to address these deficiencies.
