Nationally owned and configured EMIS system for efficient data exchange and collection Community Systems Foundation (CSF) is supporting the government of South Africa to update their current EMIS and self-deploy an integrated system that utilizes OpenEMIS.
In a new model of partnership, the Department of Basic Education South Africa is working directly with Community Systems Foundation (CSF) and UNESCO to configure, enhance and deploy OpenEMIS. OpenEMIS serve as a modernized iteration of South Africa's School Administrative Management System (SA-SAMS). DBE software development and delivery teams will work closely with the OpenEMIS lab to enhance software to meet the functional requirements of the education sector in South Africa. In doing so, the partnership will ensure that standards in software development are followed and that contributions from South Africa will benefit the greater OpenEMIS Community. CSF provided direct technical assistance to DBE in the planning for implementation of OpenEMIS and capacity building to key stakeholders on the administration and use of the open source software. In addition, CSF has provided training on OpenEMIS software development standards and procedures, positioning DBE counterparts to make meaningful contributions to the future development of OpenEMIS.
