WASH Bottleneck Analysis Tool UNICEF’s Bottleneck Analysis Tool (BAT) diagnoses key challenges faced by the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sectors.
Since 2011, WASH BAT has become the primary tool to diagnose challenges in the WASH sector, with 15 countries using the system to date and UNICEF promoting further growth. WASH BAT was developed by UNICEF as a tool to help national governments diagnose key challenges within the WASH sector, with problem analysis and practical proposals to achieve sustainable outcomes. A second version of the tool provided online and offline features for more effective project analysis and implementation, with simplified data analysis and enhanced visualizations. Further improvements have made the systems more user-friendly by improving the evaluation functions and offline systems. Today, WASH BAT is the platform of record in literature and meetings associated with sanitation and the Water for All partnership. This is an encouraging development that has been initiated by UNICEF to incentivize other countries to adopt the system.
